PSL Score Calculator: Where Do You Fall on the PSL Scale?
Where do you fall on the PSL scale? "PSL" (Purely Subjective Looks) is internet slang for a 1-10 face rating, but the original version has no fixed method - it is whatever a particular forum's readers agree on for that photo, on that day. This calculator gives you a PSL score with a fixed, repeatable method instead: the same facial-geometry ratios used in the Face Attractiveness Test, scored the same way for every photo.
About this tool
A crowd-sourced PSL rating changes with the crowd: the same photo can get very different scores depending on which forum posted it, who happened to be online, and even the order photos were shown in. That is not a measurement, it is a vote - useful as entertainment, not as something you can track or trust as consistent.
This calculator measures four things instead: jaw-to-cheekbone taper and eye spacing (35% of the score), left-right symmetry (30%), facial thirds and nose-to-mouth width balance (20%), and closeness to the golden-ratio face length-to-width benchmark (15%). The same photo, scanned twice, gives the same score - and every part of the score is shown, so you can see exactly what it is (and is not) based on.
It does not rate your skin, expression, style, grooming, voice, humour or confidence, and it is not a ranking against other people the way a forum thread is - it compares your ratios with published proportion research. Unlike posting a photo publicly for strangers to rate, this runs on your own device and your photo is never uploaded. For the most consistent result face the camera straight on with even lighting and a neutral expression, then drag the handles onto your true features.
How to take a good scan photo
- Stand 2-3 metres from the camera with your phone at chest height and your whole body in frame.
- Wear fitted clothing or swimwear so your outline is visible, and stand relaxed and natural.
- Drag each handle so it sits on the correct point of your body. Handles you move turn green, and confidence goes up.
How to read your result
Striking proportions: your ratios sit at or near the classic balanced-face ranges.
Above-average proportions with one or two clear upsides.
Balanced, with clear upside. Camera angle and photo setup usually explain most of the gap.
Several ratios sit outside the classic ranges. Start with the top item under "What is a PSL score?" - and check the photo was face-on.
