Shoulder Width to Height Ratio Calculator
Shoulder-to-waist ratio (the V-taper number) describes taper. This one is different: it compares shoulder width to height, describing overall frame width instead.
About this tool
Shoulder width here means the straight-line distance across the back from the outer edge of one shoulder to the other (biacromial width), not shoulder circumference. Measure it seam-to-seam over your shoulders with your arms relaxed, or have someone measure it with a tape held flat across your back.
Dividing that by your height gives a rough sense of how broad your frame reads independent of taper: two people with the same shoulder-to-waist ratio can still look very different if one has a naturally wider skeleton. It is also the single most useful number for jacket and coat shoulder-seam fit, which is the hardest part of outerwear to alter after the fact.
Like any skeletal measurement, shoulder width itself does not change with training - what changes is the muscle on top of it (deltoids and traps add visible width) and how the waist compares to it, which is what the V-taper tool measures.
How to read your result
Narrower frame relative to height.
Typical range for most adults.
Broader frame relative to height.
